BHUTAN SNOWMAN TREK ITINERARY

23 Days / 22 Nights Itinerary

  • Arrive at Paro International Airport.

  • Receive a traditional Bhutanese welcome from our team.

  • Transfer to your hotel and rest.

  • Visit Paro Dzong and National Museum if time permits.

  • Trek briefing in the evening by your guide.

  • Overnight in Paro.

  • Hike to Bhutan’s most iconic site, Taktsang Monastery.

  • Moderate 5–6 hour roundtrip hike to help acclimate.

  • Enjoy lunch at the cliffside cafeteria.

  • Return to Paro and rest.

  • Final gear check and preparation.

  • Drive to Drugyel Dzong and begin trek.

  • Follow Paro River through pine forests and traditional farms.

  • 5–6 hours trekking.

  • Camp near Shana.

  • Trail gradually ascends through rhododendron and oak forests.

  • 7–8 hours trekking along the river.

  • First glimpses of high Himalayan peaks.

  • Camp near Soi Thangthangkha.

  • Ascend through alpine meadows.

  • Views of Mount Jomolhari (7,326m).

  • Reach the yak herder village of Jangothang.

  • Rest and acclimatization.

  • Optional side hike to Jomolhari base camp or Tshophu Lakes.

  • Ideal day to adapt to high altitude.

  • Explore yak pastures and glacial lakes.

  • Cross the first high pass: Nyile La (4,870m).

  • Breathtaking views of Jichu Drake and Tshering Gang peaks.

  • Descend into the Lingshi basin.

  • Camp below Lingshi Dzong.

  • Leisurely walk through highland villages.

  • Visit Lingshi Dzong, weather permitting.

  • Continue to Chebisa, a charming hamlet with waterfalls.

  • Ascend steeply to Gobu La (4,410m).

  • Pass yak pastures and alpine meadows.

  • Descend to camp near a river.

  • Climb to Jhari La Pass (4,785m).

  • Cross remote valleys and glacial streams.

  • Camp at Robluthang.

  • Cross Sinche La Pass (5,005m), one of the highest on the trek.

  • Long descent into a wide valley.

  • Views of Gangchhenta (Great Tiger Mountain).

  • Camp at Limithang.

  • Easy descent to Laya village, the largest and most remote settlement.

  • Interact with Layap people known for their distinct dress and language.

  • Camp near Laya.

  • Explore the village, visit schools and monasteries.

  • Optional short hikes or cultural immersion.

  • Trek through yak herding trails.

  • Ascend through forests and mountain ridges.

  • Camp in the high pastures.

  • Climb to Tsimo La Pass (4,950m).

  • Views of Gangla Karchung and surrounding peaks.

  • Camp below the pass.

  • Cross Karchung La Pass (5,240m), the highest point on the trek.

  • Steep descent to alpine forests.

  • Camp in Tarina Valley.

  • Shorter trekking day.

  • Gradual climb through remote meadows.

  • Camp in Woche, one of Lunana’s first villages.

  • Cross Kesha La Pass (4,590m).

  • Descend into central Lunana.

  • Follow river to Lhedi.

  • Trek along Pho Chhu River.

  • Stop at Chozo village.

  • Arrive at Thanza, cultural heart of Lunana.

  • Explore Thanza, meet locals.

  • Optional hikes or relax in the alpine setting.

  • Begin return journey.

  • Cross Gophu La Pass (5,230m).

  • Camp at Tshochena.

  • Cross Loju La Pass (5,140m).

  • Trek through stark mountain ridges.

  • Camp at Jichu Dramo.

  • Last pass: Thampe La (4,600m).

  • Steep descent to Chukarpo.

  • Drive to Bumthang, marking the end of the Snowman Trek.

  • Farewell dinner and overnight in Bumthang.
