BHUTAN TRAVEL ITINERARY

6 Days / 5 Nights Itinerary

Arrival at Paro International Airport: Upon arrival at Paro International Airport,
you will be greeted by our tour guide and driver with traditional khadar (White Scarf)
to welcome you to Bhutan and provide you with essential information about the tour
itinerary, cultural practices, and safety guidelines.

Transfer to Thimphu: Board a comfortable vehicle for a scenic 1.5-hour drive to
Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. En route, stop at Tachogang Lhakhang Bridge,
built by the famous iron bridge builder Thangtong Gyalpo for some fresh air and
pictures. Enjoy panoramic views of the Himalayan mountains and lush valleys along
the way.

Upon arrival in Thimphu, check-in at your hotel and freshen up after your journey.
Your guide will brief you about the upcoming sightseeing activities and cultural
experiences planned for your stay in Thimphu.

Explore Thimphu: Explore Thimphu in the evening with your guide. Visit local
markets, stroll along the streets, or enjoy a leisurely walk to soak in the ambiance of
Bhutan's capital city.

Welcome Dinner: After a day of travel and exploration, enjoy a Welcome Dinner
at Simply Bhutan with authentic Bhutanese cuisine and a cultural performance
featuring traditional music and masked dances.

Overnight Stay in Thimphu: Your guide will take you to your hotel where you can
retire to your comfortable accommodation for a peaceful night's sleep.

Breakfast at Hotel: Start your day with a delicious breakfast at your hotel in
Thimphu, preparing you for a day of exploration and discovery.

Thimphu Sightseeing Tour: Embark on a comprehensive sightseeing tour of
Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. Visit iconic cultural landmarks such as:

Memorial Chorten: Pay homage at this revered Buddhist stupa, built in memory of
the third King of Bhutan.

Buddha Dordenma: Visit Buddha Dordenma, a 51-meter-tall Buddha Statue
overlooking the Thimphu Valley, offering panoramic views of the city and
surrounding landscape. This statue is considered as the largest sitting Buddha in the
world

Lunch: Enjoy a sumptuous lunch at a local restaurant in Thimphu, sampling
traditional Bhutanese dishes or international cuisine, depending on your preferences

Afternoon:
Visit the Takin Preserve at Motithang to witness the national animal of Bhutan, the
mythological Takin with the head of goat and body of cow.

Visit the Royal Textile Academy and Museum in the heart of the capital city to learn
about Bhutanese textile and weaving traditions. This visit is believed to have
inspired the designs of some of the famous fashion designers in the world.

In the evening your guide will take you through the Handicraft Market and Craft
Bazaar for an evening stroll and traditional souvenirs.

The day will end with a dinner at the Folk Heritage Museum Restaurant, known for
traditional Bhutanese farm-style meals and ambience.

Overnight stay at your hotel in Thimphu.

Breakfast at Hotel

Embark on a scenic 3 to 4-hour drive from Thimphu to Punakha, the ancient capital
of Bhutan. Journey through picturesque landscapes, passing by terraced fields,
rivers, and traditional Bhutanese villages.

En route, stop at Dochula Pass (3,100 m). Spend time at Dochula and the 108 Druk
Wangyal Chortens (Stupas) for some crisp air, hot cup of tea/coffee and aweinspiring views of Himalayas.

Continue the drive to Punakha. En route, visit Chimi Lhakhang, the temple of
fertility, dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kunley, the Divine Madman. This temple is
famous for blessing you with a child and a child of your preferred gender. Enjoy a
short walk-through rice fields to reach the temple and make a wish.

Lunch at a local restaurant.

Arrive in Punakha and check into your hotel.

Evening free to explore Punakha town with your guide or relax by the riverside.

Dinner and Overnight stay at hotel in Punakha.

Breakfast at hotel.

Visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most beautiful fortresses,
located at the confluence of Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. This magnificent fortress
is the winter residence of the monastic body of Bhutan.

After the visit to the magnificent Punakha Dzong, visit Bhutan’s longest suspension
bridge for spectacular views of the river and valley.

Lunch at a local café.

Drive back to Paro (approx. 4 hours). En route, stop for scenic photography,
tea/coffee.

Check into hotel in Paro and rest.

Evening at leisure: Explore historic and sacred Paro town, local shops and cafes with
your guide.

Dinner and Overnight stay at hotel in Paro.

Early breakfast at hotel.

Drive to the base and begin the hike up to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest). The
trail takes about 2–3 hours uphill through pine forests, prayer flags and offers
stunning valley views with aromatic pine infused air.

Rest at the cafeteria viewpoint halfway through for tea and refreshments.

Continue hike up to the monastery, perched dramatically on a cliff 900 meters above
the valley floor, Tiger’s Nest or Taktsang as the locals call it, is the number one
tourist site in Bhutan (For those who are unable to hike, Horses are available but
only for upwards climb)

Descend and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in Paro.

Afternoon:
Visit Kichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan built in the 7th century.

Visit Paro Ta Dzong (National Museum) for insights into Bhutan’s history, arts,
culture and ancient Bhutanese artifacts.

Return to hotel, relax and freshen up.

Farewell Dinner with your guide and hosts.

Overnight stay at hotel in Paro.

Early breakfast.

Your guide and driver will see you off at the airport.
